How to Formulate Your Mission Statement

 

Every website should have a principal objective that can be summarized into a concise mission statement. The mission statement will be the guiding idea around which the entire site will emerge.

Begin by thinking strategically about your company's future and where you want it to be in the next 5 to 10 years. Our task with formulating the mission statement is to inject a sense of purpose into the site's functions. You need a strong sense of direction to galvanize your site.

Decide: "Who are we?"; "What do we do?"; "Where are we headed?"

Your mission statement should reflect what your company seeks to do and become, and provide a clear view of what your company intends to do for its customers.

To formulate the mission statement we will break the task into 3 parts:

  1. Key market - in particular who are your customers?
  2. Contribution - what do you do that helps your customers?
  3. Distinction - why do your customers prefer to deal with you over your competitors?
